Working notes for installation ideas. Following a proposal for a residency at The Newlyn Gallery, i have continued to work towards concepts for installations involving what have become, for the time-being, the most evident parts of my practice. COSTUME (used in performances past and present), VIDEO (projections) and SOUND (spoken word and instrumental). I want to devise 'pieces' that are: unavoidable, loud, joyful, facetious?, mildly inappropriate, unexpected, spontaneous, lo-fi. art-as-entertainment, ARTPOP, something that can be called art by those that wish to do so but is also an excuse to dance, to think, to react, to be entertained, to participate within. A combination of the creative and the social (all too separate sometimes) Performances/events involving music, projections and costume are currently how i see my practice progressing and being presented to a wider audience. Currently researching artists who have placed music/sound/costume/video/performance/dance etc. into the gallery/"fine art" setting. Marvin Gaye Chetwynd (lo-fi costume, music, dance, carnival-esque experience), Angus Fairhurst (art-band Low Expectations), Martin Creed (ballet works), Leigh Bowery (surreal costume, clubbing-as-art, musical act MINTY) and the DADA performances of the Cabaret Voltaire (eccentric costume, art-music-poetry together as one, art as a social activity). Along with this research, development of my current practice includes: Collecting materials and making costumes - masks, old clothes etc. Video/animation work - experimenting with editing techniques and projection. SPACE 37 (www.tomstockley.weebly.com/space-37) - our collective arts venue, working with others creatively to further develop ideas ( collaboration, curation, performance).
