1. I like to make art that is fun and impulsive 2. My work is low in quality but high in passion and emotion 3. I work with the written, live performance, video & sound 4. my work is highly interactive 5. I try to make work that is accessible to all verdict???yes Drawing a Presence 2016 "picks up a question posed by the debate at the close of DaP14 “Do you have to leave the county in order to establish yourself as an artist?” and considers the work of young artists who have chosen to work as part of a collective" As Space 37 (our 9 month old creative event/artist led/collaborative collective), our brief was to present everything we've done this year (gigs, poetry nights, exhibitions, food fights, etc.) and install it in a gallery setting. After various ideas, we settled on a relatively formulaic structure of photos and prints of our habitat (ranging from landscapes, to street scenes, to bedrooms) inter-dispersed with various collaborative works (music videos, posters). The installation as a whole becomes narrated by the viewer as they read a poetic piece of writing describing our experience(s). My guilt at presenting such a neat and un-confusing set of work was quickly erased by a fantastic rendition of Maddie Broad's We Attempt To Fit Through The Gallery Door, complete with bear masks provided by Moogie Wonderland for the opening night. As well as exhibiting, Space 37 have the honours of closing the show on June 24th. The Hideous Trend (noise poetry featuring myself) and Escape Wave (Penzance synthpop, who made his debut performance with us), alongside a local dance group (tbc). This is more within my skill-set (i.e. a performance-based event), but setting up the show itself was a learning curve in curation. |
