In October, myself and Oran Perrett (www.oranperrett.weebly.com) attended a gig by the Japanese psychedelic band Acid Mothers Temple. Inspired by the combination of experimental noise and matching visual projections/lighting, we formed a plan for a new series of events under the moniker TEMPLE. The aim is to create a platform (closely linked to our DIY venue SPACE 37) for the small but visionary experimental visual art/music scene. We wanted to deliver an alternative night to that of the 'hip' venues of the town, something that was inclusive and (hopefully) closer to pushing certain boundaries. For this reason, we arranged for our hosts to be The Woodlane Social Club, a once thriving but now unfortunately under-used community space. It was important to us to make links putside of the student bubble, and to facilitate a melting pot of audience members and creative performance. Artists involved in TEMPLE #1 include:
Tom Stockley - Event manager / MC
Oran Perrett - Visuals / Merchandise
The Living Marks - Live dance
glider/Escape Wave/Maximum Freedom Riders - Live music
Captain Max - DJ
TEMPLE #2 will be held in January.
