Between August and September I ran three workshops in Redcliffe, Filwood and Bedminster, in collaboration with local community centres. The workshops were free to participate in and open to all ages, abilities and backgrounds. A total of 25 people aged between 30 - 90 years old took part!
My aim was to facilitate conversations about ideas of home, community and diverse experiences of living in Bristol, connecting participants from different ages and backgrounds. To do this, I ran 1 - 2 hour sessions involving various writing exercises, group discussions and collaborations. Using word games, creative writing, storytelling and collage making, participants were encouraged to share their experiences of living in Bristol. Feedback from the participants and community facilitators were overwhelmingly positive! I was really humbled by how willing people were to share their stories, memories and thoughts about what it means to them to live in our city. Everyone's contribution was unique, memories of Bristol in the 1960s to stories from people that had moved here from Liverpool, Newcastle and even Calcutta! |
